Highlands Ranch, CO - Sixth Congressional District candidate, Mike Coffman announced today that eight retired general officers have endorsed his candidacy for Congress.
"At a time when our country is at war and we are faced with extraordinary challenges to our national security, it's time to send a combat veteran to Congress," said retired Marine Corps Brigadier General Harry Hagamen.
Coffman served for a combined 21 years between the U.S. Army, the Army Reserve, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the Marine Corps Reserve. In 1990, Coffman took an unpaid leave of absence from the State House of Representatives to return to active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps to serve as a light armored infantry officer during the first Gulf War. In 2005, Coffman again volunteered to return to active duty and stepped down from his elected office, this time as the State Treasurer, to serve in Iraq as a civil affairs officer. In Iraq, Coffman helped with two national elections and the establishment of interim local governments in the Western Euphrates River Valley.
"Mike Coffman served under my command in the U.S. Army Reserve while he was attending the University of Colorado. His experience of rising through the enlisted ranks in the Army before transferring to the Marine Corps gives him a tremendous depth in military experience that he can bring to the Congress", said retired U.S. Army Reserve Brigadier General Bernard Thorn.
